Meet our Team

​Our team consists of highly respected veteran wrestlers, experienced coaches and parent volunteers who want to support and grow the sport of youth wrestling in the Herndon Reston community.

Our coaches are background checked via NCSI, SafeSport trained and USA Wrestling leader members during any active wrestling season.

Matt Sanders
Coach

Coach and co-founder of HRWA. Coach Matt was the former Head Coach of the Herndon Reston Rattlers. He helped coach the Rattlers for over 7 years and has been an active participant in the wrestling community in Northern Virginia. Besides coaching the Rattlers, he is also an Assistant Coach at South Lakes High School and with Scanlan Wrestling Academy. His passion for wrestling goes beyond that of coaching his son, Aiden, and would like to see youth wrestling grow and thrive in the Herndon and Reston communities.

Ron "Papa bear" Sanders
​Coach

Coach Ron was with the Herndon Reston Rattlers for over 5 years before joining HRWA. Known as “Papa Bear” to his grandkids, he has a strong, gentle nature that has been greatly appreciated by the kids he coaches on the mat. It wasn’t long before the little wrestlers started calling Coach Ron “Papa Bear” too! He volunteers plenty of his time to the wrestling community as well as to his church. His character, integrity, passion for coaching, mentoring the youth, and many years of experience as a coach, makes Ron a huge asset and respected member of our team.

David "Scooter" Landrum
​Coach

Coach Scooter is one of the co-founders of HRWA. His coaching experience includes 1 year of high school wrestling and 3 years with the Herndon Reston Rattlers where his son and daughter wrestled. He strongly believes wrestling provides firm foundation of values for young people to build on. He has a passion for introducing new athletes to the sport of wrestling and his positivity and fun-loving nature are loved by all wrestlers and parents alike!

Marc Lang
​Coach

We are excited to have Coach Marc join the coaching staff for HRWA! His experience includes coaching with the Rattlers Wrestling team for 3 years. Throughout that time he has been a positive role model for the younger kids and teens and respected by all parents. His dedication and commitment to the wrestling community is a huge asset to our team.
